God gives us instruction in the Bible about how a person is saved or born again
- John 3:7 - Do not be amazed that I said to you, You must be born again.
First you must realize you are a sinner. We have all done things that have been wrong and offended God.
- Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Because you are a sinner, you are condemned to death (which is eternal separation from God).
- Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Hebrews 9:27 - And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.
But God loved mankind so much He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to bear your sin and die in your place.
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 - He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Jesus had to shed His blood on the cross and die so the sin issue could be dealt with.
- Hebrews 9:22 - And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
- Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God said that he laid our sins upon Jesus and He died in our place. He became our substitute.
He took our sins and the punishment for them upon Himself at the cross.
In order to begin to move toward God and receive the salvation Jesus purchased for us the Bible
describes things that we begin to do.
Repentance which is a change of mind that agrees with God that we have all sinned and are sinners, and
that Jesus died on the cross for us. In repentance we turn from the lifestyle we have been living and
begin to live for God.
- Acts 17:30 - Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent.
Belief in Jesus; Coming under His Lordship (you begin to let Him rule your life); Confession of His
Lordship over you life to others; Baptism in Water; and Receiving the Holy Spirit.
-
Acts 16:30-31 - and after he brought them out, he said, Sirs, what must I do to be
saved? The said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and
your household"
-
Acts 2:36-38 - "Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God
has made Him both Lord and Christ--this Jesus whom you crucified." Now when they
heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the
apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" Peter said to them, "Repent,
and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Repent means to turn around, or turn away from the lifestyle you have been living
and begin to live a life directed toward God.
-
John 1:12 - But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children
of God, even to those who believe in His name
-
Romans 10:9-13 - that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your
heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person
believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in
salvation for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."
-
Romans 10:13 - for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."
-
Matthew 10:32 - Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him
before My Father who is in heaven.
Once you respond to God, He desires to join you in a way of life (not just a meeting) with
people who are living for Him (the church). He has a place for every person in a local
church. As we join with His people there will be encouragement to live for God, teaching
that will help us grow, and leaders that will help us live for God.
-
Acts 2:41-46 - So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day
there were added about three thousand souls. They were continually
devoting themselves to the apostles´ teaching and to fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer. And all those who had believed were together
Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to
house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart.
-
1 Corinthians 12:18 - But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the
body, just as He desired.
