Boy Scouts of America is a national organization. The three main goals of Scouting
are character development, citizenship, and physical fitness. The national
organization allows each group (church, organization) that sponsors a troop to
custom tailor it to fits the goals of the organization that sponsors the troop.
We are a church that believes in the relational message. We as a church believe in
the two most important commandments that Jesus talked about. We as a troop have the
same vision. We want the boys to carry on the legacy of serving God. We also want
to allow for father-son time. We believe that making time for sons is profitable.
If we won’t take the time to be our son’s role model someone else will.
We here at CHC have a Troop and a Pack. The pack spans the ages of 1st - 5th grade.
The troop spans 6th grade or 11 years old through 12th grade or age 18. The pack
and troop here at this church are run as one organization, unlike most packs and
troops all of our boys meet together for corporate gatherings before splitting out
into group specific activities. It is normal to have the older boys act as den
chiefs. We have the older boys start the meetings each week with prayer and a
message that they have prepared. The weekly meetings are Monday Nights 6:00 to 6:30
is prayer for all who hold a leadership position. From 6:30 to 7:30 for cubs and
from 6:30 to 8:00 for the boys. The first 15 minutes are for the group time, then
we split into small groups and do an activity and then we meet back together for a
corporate game.
Participation is comprised of attendance, learning material in order to advance,
and popcorn sales.
Legacy is very important in the Bible. It is not a question about whether we are
going to have legacy, but of what quality our legacy will be. I have heard it said
that it is easier to raise a boy than to repair a man; I believe this to be true.
The goal of the program is to raise boys in the knowledge of Christ so that they

may walk in moral integrity. Proverbs 22:6 train up a child in the way he should
go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will
not depart from it (amp). Ephesians 6:4 fathers, do not irritate and provoke your
children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly]
in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord (amp).
II Timothy 3:15 and how from your childhood you have had a knowledge of and been
acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to instruct you and give you
the understanding for salvation which comes through faith in Christ Jesus (amp).
It is clear to see that we as parents and leaders of children we have a biblical
mandate to raise children in the knowledge of Jesus, and to train them in the way
that Jesus would have them go. Scouting is another tool that can be used to do
this.
